Coupon Strategy: Creating Scenarios with Fillers

Let’s address 2 coupon strategy topics:

#1 Scenarios
#2 Fillers

#1  Scenarios:

I wanted 4 papers (inserts) this week.  I could have gone to the store and spent $8.00 on Sunday papers.  End of story.  INSTEAD I cooked up a savvy scenario to save myself some cash and get a few extra goodies!

By using a “purchase coupon” (in this case $3/$15 at Rite Aid) and buying a FAR (free after rebate) item, I was able to get everything in the picture for less than the cost of my 4 papers!  Moral of the story:  coupons create savings on items you don’t have coupons for!

#2  Fillers:

What is that little red blob in the lower right hand corner of the picture?  A 33 cent piece of candy I was dying to have?  Umm… NO.  It’s a “filler.”  I wanted to use my $3/$15 coupon, but my total was only at $14.85.  I needed an inexpensive item (filler) to get me to $15.  It could be anything!

Fillers are a common necessity when shopping at Walgreens when you need your # of coupons (manufacturer coupons + register rewards) to equal the # of items you’re purchasing.   (More on that later.)
