Save Money on Hotels for Travel OR Staycations!

My favorite way to save money on hotels for travel or staycations is to check the daily deal sites (like Groupon, Seize the Deal, and LivingSocial) for my destination cities well before it’s time to travel. It requires a bit of planning ahead, but it has worked out well so far.

Here’s where we stayed in York Beach, Maine. The Atlantic House normally costs $225 per night, but using Groupon we stayed for only $99 (plus $9 taxes).  We also received a $40 credit to their restaurant which saved us well over 50% on dinner that night.

#GRDates: Fun, Frugal, FREE Things to do in Holland

#GRDates is a weekly series highlighting fun & frugal dates in Grand Rapids and around West Michigan for $25 or less! Because I love West Michigan and want to experience everything it has to offer, but I do have to stick to a budget.

This weekend I’m headed to the lakeshore (Holland, MI to be exact) for Gleek Retreat blogging conference. We’ll have a little bit of free time to do some exploring, so here are some fun, frugal and FREE options.

  • Windmill Island – $15 per couple, FREE for residents, or go here for family rates and info. Once inside, attractions are FREE. Bring carrots to feed the horses and or take a carousel ride. (Thanks, jodimichelle!) Don’t forget about Dutch Village as an option for families, too.
  • Holland Harbor Light – Nice photo opp of a unique Michigan lighthouse. Holland State Park admission is $10 per vehicle yearly or $8 daily.
  • Holland Farmers Market – Stroll through on Wednesdays or Saturdays and then enjoy an evening *in* cooking dinner.

What are some of YOUR favorite things to do in Holland, MI?

Get more #GRDates ideas here. Have you already done these dates or do you have other ideas? Would your West Michigan business like to be featured? Email me.

Zipments: Save Money & Make Money, West Michigan #grmi

zipments west michigan

Right before I left for vacation, I heard about this awesome new company in West Michigan called Zipments. My fellow blogger jodimichelle was earning money by driving a van full of tulips around for Tulip Time delivery. Such an easy little opportunity to make some extra cash.

There are two main ways to use Zipments:

1.  Save time and money.  Let someone else get your package where it needs to go.  List your errands or courier service needs on Zipments.com. Posting takes about a minute.

2.  Make money.  You can also make money in your spare time by taking things across town for other people or businesses. Get paid within 24 hours of completion.

It’s easy to register. Just go to Zipments.com.  You can also keep up with them on facebook | twitter | Zipments blog.  Tell them Savvy Chic Savings sent you! :)

Disclosure: I was compensated for sharing this cool company and opportunity with you, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

It’s Back to Business Tomorrow!

the savvy chic direction

Thanks so much for your patience during my absence this past week. I was enjoying some much-needed R&R. I took this photo at the Portland Head Light in Maine not realizing the relevance it would have the day I returned to the real world (today). More on that later…

Tomorrow I’ll be back to posting as usual. In the meantime, if you have questions or would like help on specific deals, please feel free to ask! Leave a note in the comments section and I’ll get right back to you. I’ll be here all night. ;)

Best,

Jolon
